Worlds Wrap Up Candidates: 1999 PDGA Pro Rookies of the Year Compiled By
Brian Hoeniger / PDGA Players who turned Pro after the 1999 Amateur Worlds are considered to be Tour rookies in 2000.
Men
Aaron Wield
After finishing 2nd at the 1998 Amateur Worlds, the "Wield Child" stormed out of the gate in 1999, winning more money in at the Bowling Green Open in April than any Tour rookie did in all of 1998. Only 16 years old, he also won the 1999 Worlds Distance Contest (534').
1999: Played 14 events for 799 points and $3471. In the money: 86%.
Best: 2nd at Bowling Green, 4th at In Flight Open, 5th at Mad City Open.
Worlds: 7th
Eric Tracy
1997 World Junior Champion. 18 year old usually found on the Southern National tour.
1999: Played 8 events for 386 points and $1352. In the money: 63%.
Best: 2nd at Southern Nationals, 7th at Toronto Island Open.
Worlds: 27th
Ken Jarvis
19 year old joined the PDGA with his twin brother Marc in late 1998. Throws a smooth 500'.
1999: Played 11 events for 814 points and $1799. In the money: 91%.
Best: Won Sunrise Shootout, 3rd at SoCal Championships, 8th at Bob West Memorial.
Worlds: did not play
Honorable Mention:
These 4 players won $900-$1200 and either won at the B or C Tier level or had a high finish at a SuperTour event.
Women
Fontaine Segerquist
Southpaw toured extensively with husband Shawn Sinclair.
1999: Played 15 events for 110 points and $643.
Best: 2nd at Minnesota Majestic and World Mixed Doubles.
Worlds: 11th
Lesli Herndon
1998 Amateur World Champ.
1999: Played 12 events for 91 points and $1400.
Best: 5 wins including Southern Nationals, Tennessee DGCs, and World Mixed Doubles, 2nd at Waco Charity Cup, 3rd at Womens Nationals.
Worlds: 10th
