Todd Branch Pro Journal: Sunday
Doubles In The Rain

By Todd Branch / DiscLife.com
video greeting from Todd (136 Kb mpg)

Todd Branch is well known to DiscLife.com readers as our resident Touring Editor and leader of the now-famous Winnicrew, a group of four touring professional disc golfers who criss-cross the country each year in search of disc golf adventures.

Hello! Today was officially the first day of Worlds 2000.

The weather was less than accommodating to kick off this, the biggest disc golf event in history. Steady rain fell throughout the morning. I found myself out on the course playing mixed doubles with local pro Laura Thomley. It turns out that Laura likes to play in the rain even less than I do. Dave played with local am cutie Stacey Koos. They finished one stroke behind Laura and I. Al and Sue ended up in 3rd place. Right now Stokely/King and Sinclair/Bower are playing off for first place.

Those of us playing in doubles today didn't get an opportunity to play any of the side games (mini-golf, putting, distance, mta) since all evens occurred at the same time as the mixed doubles. Oh well... that's not what we're really here for anyway. Hopefully we'll get our money back.

I spent most of the day getting flagged down by old pals whom I haven't seen in awhile. It's great to see my non-touring friends. Tomorrow is divisional doubles. Partners are as follows:

  • Al and I
  • Dave and Avery Jenkins
  • Sue and Leslie Herndon
  • I think Cam and Worm will play together.
More tomorrow... so far so fun.

-Todd
