Bower Watch Campground Ace! By
Denny Ritner / DiscLife.com
The Juliana Bower vs. Elaine King showdown is certainly off to an exciting start. After the playoff victory for the King team in mixed doubles on Sunday, Juliana struck back on Monday in divisional doubles. Juliana's ace on #14 on the Campground Course, a blind 310 footer, propelled her team to a one stroke victory over Elaine's team. Tuesday's opening round of singles play brought somewhat difficult conditions on the Monster Course with several bursts of rain and the accompanying wet grass. Juliana struggled a bit during the round, but showing champion grit managed to grind out a 77 and a two stroke lead over Elaine. As often is the case for locals, most of Juliana's trouble came on the letter holes where she gave up four strokes to par. The highlights of her round included a crushed park job on the 355 foot #10, a text-book perfect drive on #1 to set up birdie, a solid 5 on the monster hole into a tough wind and solid pars on #7 and #18. Wednesday the excitement will heat up as Juliana and Elaine play head to head on the leader card on the Campground Course and the Original Course.
