Bower Watch King/Stokely Win In Mixed Doubles By
Denny Ritner / DiscLife.com
In a potential foreshadowing of the battles to come, former champ Elaine King defeated Juliana in Worlds Mixed Doubles. The top card -- featuring Bower/Shawn Sinclair and King/Scott Stokely -- went to sudden death on the Monster Course at Hudson Mills. On the first playoff hole Stokely/King drove into trouble, had a nice out shot and then Stokely canned the clutch 30 footer for par. Bower and Sinclair both just missed their difficult birdie attempts. On hole two, Juliana parked her high anhyzer just past the basket very much like Ken Climo did en route to his '98 DGLO victory. King knocked in a sweet 25 footer for deuce to tie. On the third hole the modified part of the modified best shot rule came into play. Bower threw a great ace run that would have counted if it had gone in, but couldn't count otherwise. Sinclair's drive was 25 feet past in fairly heavy brush and they both missed the tough putt. King tapped in a five footer for deuce to win.
