Tuesday Wrap Up

These courses are great! All are equally challenging, and anything under par is world class. You can really test your skills in Minnesota.

Steve Rico played perfect golf today, parring #16 at Kaposia, which is 800 feet and the toughest hole on the course. He also made a bunch of 40+ foot putts, and birdied #12 with a wicked 60 foot putt, dead center. Steve took a double bogie on a birdiable hole, otherwise he would have shot -8.

  • Al shot -4 in 2nd round at CP Adams with nine birdies and five pars.
  • Aaron Wield shot a five, a six and pair of fours with an ace Kaposia, and still finished the round at -3.
  • Mike Randolph is solid, and is hitting some long jump putts.
  • Geoff Lissaman is at a surprising even.
  • Brian McCree shot -6 in the first round, +9 in the second and fell from the first card to near the bottom of the A pool.
Climo missed eight putts from 35 feet in the second round. "I got worked a lot by the course," he said. For example, Climo was hole on #11 this morning at Kaposia and at -5 when he came to a birdie hole. First he went OB left, then hit chain right on his upshot and went OB again into the water for a double circle five. Ouch.

Ken Climo Dave made a shot that will be told for a while... on hole #3 at CP Adams -- a 560 foot roller hole - you need to jump over a curb to get a three. The pin sits on a 60-degree down slope, and it's easy to lose disc back there. He hit a stump, jumped sixty feet into the air, and landed in the middle of the road but went safe. The next shot went into a tree instead of the gap, and he hit a 100-foot anhyzer jump putt to save par and stay at even.

Stunning news: Juliana Korver is in 3rd place! One of the international players -- Niloofa Mosavar Rahmani -- shot +1 at CP Adams to take the women's lead. Lesli Herndon shot +3, Juliana +5. Sue Stephens checked in with another +7, and is looking to crack top ten for the first time.

Juliana threw a shot on #16 at CP Adams and went into the shule by the pin. Her caddy was Shawn Sinclair, and he went to check the shot but found a yellow jacket nest instead, and started jumping around as the little critters went to work. He and JK have been traveling with a greyhound dog - Timber - and the hound ran in to see what all the fuss was about. Timber (and Shawn) got attacked, and last I knew they were gonna take him to a vet. Shawn escaped with some stings on the leg, but managed to shoot a great round in the afternoon.

The crazy thing is that, before the attack Juliana had been playing a lot of shule golf, and really got her game on track after the incident.

Yes, Ron Russell is definitely out. We heard he's just sitting in his hotel room, mulling it over and watching TV.

There was at least one case of heat exhaustion today, one of the players in D pool. Apparently he passed out and was taken to the hospital. We hope he's okay.

The A pool (which includes all the Winnicrew) plays a 7:30 early morning round tomorrow at Oakwood, then a second round at North Valley at 1:30. They say this heat wave is supposed to break on Thursday, but we're also supposed to get some rain.
