I can now confirm that yes, Ron Russell has dropped out due to back problems. Looks like the 1999 Champ will have to try again next year.
The weather is better today, it's not so humid. At least two people got sick during Monday rounds, including California's Roger Cansler. We hear he was barfing pretty hard.
Turned out that Al and I got last cash in doubles. The crew all qualified for the putting finals, and I think we can still get into the finals, since so many players were wiped out and didn't show up last night. Sue 'the massage lady' Lande has been working on Dave's foot, and he says it's been helping. I guess Climo sees her every morning.
Our pool got a 10:30am start this morning at Kaposia. The big shooters in the 1st that we've heard so far: Stevie Rico, Brian McCree and Johnny McCray are leading at -6, there were lots of -2 and -3s: Climo at -3, Dave Feldberg -2, Mike Randolph -3. Aaron 'Wild Child' Wield hit an ace and also turned in a -3. Shawn Sinclair shot a -2 with nine birdies. Me and Avery are both at +1, Schack at +2.
The women played a 7:30 round, Juliana Korver tore up the field at +3, followed by Lesli Herndon at +5 and Elaine King at +7. Sue Stephens is at +7.
After the round we came back to the room and hunkered in the AC, finished off the leftover spaghetti and are now getting ready to take off for the second round at CP Adams for a 4:30 start.
