May 17 1999, St. Louis, MO
Yesterday was the "World's Biggest Disc Golf Weekend." Dave McCormack held a
tournament that day and gave out World's Biggest stuff to those who pre-registered.
Jefferson Barracks park, St. Louis. Lovely mixture of hills and woods. Some
long holes, a couple short tricky holes, almost all baskets sit on a side
hill. Tricky putting.
1st round, middle tees
Russell -9
Branch -8
McCormack -6
Schack -5
2nd round, long tees
Russell -5 (-14 total)
Branch -1 (-9 total)
Schack -3 (-8 total)
McCormack -2 (-8 total)
Showcase final 9. Safari style, lots of rollers and big trouble.
Russell +4 (-10 total)
Schack E (-8 total)
McCormack +3 (-5 total)
Branch +6 (-3 total)
Al shot a near perfect final nine. It was possible to shoot a -1 on the
final nine course (that's without having to drive 500+ or hit any putts
outside 100 feet). Al did get a 2 on the last hole of the final nine with a
440 foot drive and a 55 foot putt. I, on the other hand, managed to find
most of the trouble and even cut up my arm while throwing out of some pricker
bushes.
Impressions of St. Louis: Lots and lots of real nice people!!!
Dave McCormack let us stay at his house for a whole week.
All of the local golfers were super cool. Al and I sold lots of plastic, got
lots of free beer, and lots of offers for places to stay and party during the
next time we are in town. We'll be passing by the St. Louis area many more
times this year and plan on stopping in to see the local golfers a lot more.
Neither Al nor I won the tournament this week but I'd say we made more
friends than anyone.
We are leaving for the Waco Charity Cup sometime today. Al is still
sleeping. We may head over to Kansas City to visit "Hal Baby" Kurz along the
way. Hyzer is having a blast... he's working on his new bone right now.
Al and I watched some video on Chris "Max" Voigt last night. Demonstrations
of 360-drives and stuff. I plan on learning the 360 over the next few weeks.
Al and I have also been practicing our roller shots for big distance. No
problems with the Winnebago so far. An air conditioner would be nice. It's
been real warm the last few days and it'll be even warmer when we get to
Texas. I have a household AC with us but we haven't really figured out how
to rig it up.
More to come later.... I'll see you Michigan boys in a couple weeks at the
upper midwest team invitational. Go Michigan!!!

P.S. The Red Wings have really been embarrassing us down here. I sure wish
Osgood wasn't hurt.
