We rolled into Rocky Russell's Kentucky home on Wednesday evening with yet another flat tire. It got replaced a few days later... now the Winnie has five new radial tires and one
crappy bias tire remaining. Anybody wanna take bets when that one will wear out?
Rocky had a houseful of people for the Bowling Green Open again this year... somewhere around 15 guests. Everyone chipped in to ensure a good time. The Winnicrew mowed the lawn (twice!),
Dave Greenwell cooked up a whole batch of blue gill, Eric Roadhouse bounced around tinting vehicle windows, etc... You had to get up early if you needed to use a
bathroom. The ping-pong was fast and furious.
DiscTV was in town and set up a viewing of the first two shows. It was in a hotel lobby next to a waterfall so we couldn't really hear anything. The TV had some problems
with the brightness and/or contrast so we didn't get a very good picture. We still don't really know how the show looks. One thing that we do know is that the show is now
worldwide on Dish Network and DTV! This is great. I hope a lot of people see the show and take up the sport.
The four courses used at the Bowling Green Open were basically unchanged from the previous year. Hobson Grove is still super tight but a few little improvements on
some of the worst holes made it better. I shot with Mike Young during the first round as he walked off with an 11 under. This was the best round at Hobson and Worm
(Mike) would go on to win the tournament. Walt (Snoop) Haney and Larry Leonard would come in 2nd and 3rd. Shawn Sinclair rounded out the final group that will be
featured on DiscTV. I was the guest commentator during the final 9 holes with Brian Sullivan. What fun! I got hooked up with my own radio mike and filled in the 'color'
while Sully laid down the facts and some questions. I can't wait to see how it turned out. Dave does the color commentary for the Chapel Hill episode that I believe airs
this Sunday on satellite while I play. Hopefully we can catch that after the tournament at Don Johnson's house.
Bowling Green wrapped up and we stayed one more day at Rocky's. We said our goodbyes to team Wendell who were making the enormous trek out to California for the
Triple Nugget... we'd see them again in a few weeks... then we drove up to Gaithersburg, Maryland for the Seneca Creek Soiree. NO FLAT TIRES! Can you believe it? We
got a campground site with Flying Eye, and the Sugar Shack for a few days and practiced up on the course as best we could. It rained on and off all week and weekend.
There was some sort of mix-up about a final 9 holes for the TV show and it was decided that there wouldn't be a final nine. DiscTV had to sit this one out. They are going to
use a backup show that was filmed for just such an emergency... I think it will be footage from National Doubles.
Seneca was Seneca: very pretty and very challenging. Some new people vowed never to return and some people who had previously vowed not to return did very well.
Mike (the Mose) Moser took the lead after the first round and never looked back. He had been out practicing the course all week long. This was Mike's 4th time winning
the Soiree. Mike's wife Amy (who is about 7 months pregnant) played a couple rounds too... whew! The hills hear make me lose my breath. Larry Leonard shot a course
record -10 during the final round to shoot into second place. Juliana Korver was victimized by Lesli Herndon's rolling skills as Lesli won by four strokes over a strong field including Korver, King, Stephens, Martin and others. Way to go Lesli.
Jenkins and Feldberg tied for 6th with good play on Sunday. Jenkins did throw a few rollers this year but not too many.
A big storm just missed the tournament on Sunday during the first round. We still got a bunch of rain but about 40 miles south was hail and a tornado that hit a small town
and killed some people along with wiping out several buildings. Close call. Rain... I don't like the rain at all... I finished 14th and keep the monkey.... man, two weeks in a
row.
So... anyway... look for us on TV. Hope you all shoot well this week.
