August 20 2001, Kalamazoo MI
Whew! Worlds is finally over. I hope everyone enjoyed Mark Ellis' and my
updates. We tried hard to bring everyone some flavor to add to the cold hard
numbers of the scores.
The Winnicrew didn't perform quite the way we had hoped to, but hey, I
guess we didn't do too bad. It was tough out there. I did, however, earn the right to
be a World Champion at something... putting! Dave was second. Avery was 4th.
After the awards ceremony ended we hit the road and tried to make it
to Indiana for their State Championships the following morning, but ran into
some fuel problems about halfway there. After a lot of tinkering and more
than a couple mouthfuls of nasty unleaded gasoline, I finally found the
problem; a wire short in the tank selector switch. I performed a quick fix
but it was too late to get us to the tournament on time. We stopped off at
an outlet mall and did a bit of shopping on our way back to Kalamazoo.
I borrowed my mom's car and drove Linda the 500 miles back to St. Louis and
spent a couple days there with her. We mostly relaxed and unwound after our
two weeks together on the road. We said our goodbyes and I drove back to
Kzoo. I'll see you at the end of the season Linda. The time will fly by....
trust me.
After the long drive back home I spent another day recuperating, then Avery
and I did some re-organization of the Winnie and spent some time meeting with Brian Sullivan.
Dave was in Grand Rapids for a couple days attending
and standing in a wedding. On Sunday morning we drove out to Detroit for an MDGO B-Tier,
showing up just as the 'bring it in' horn was sounding.
We hadn't thrown any golf discs for a week and just sort of rolled out of the
car and jumped right into a tournament. I took 4th, Avery 6th, and Dave was
9th. Scott Martin won. We drove back to Kzoo and spent another day resting.
Next we head off to the Rumbletown Open in Milwaukee. It's their first time
being a SuperTour and I understand that Harley Davidson is a major tournament
sponsor... should be interesting. Barry Schultz will be there, fresh off
his gold medal performance at the World games in Akita, Japan.
Tune in next time...
