Avery Goes Roller-Free
May 12 2001, Jenkins Estates, Medina, OH

Dave Feldberg retains -- and remains -- the Shule Monkey. Seneca Creek Soiree! Another fine tournament put on by our friends in Maryland. Craig Gangloff finally won his first SuperTour event by a comfortable margin on his home course. Congrats Craig. Dave was hanging out in third for his last round but dropped to 9th. Avery and I tied for 10th one stroke back.

The course underwent a few small changes with a new hole #2 and a new basket placement on hole #1. Some of the fairway trees had been pruned back and some were even removed. Avery accomplished the impossible by cashing in the event without throwing a single roller shot. This feat might never be duplicated. Since Avery and I tied, Avery had the Shule Monkey for the moment, but Dave would be carrying the little fella again soon.

While in Seneca we stayed with our pal Pat Pitts and his family. They were super cool and we had a nice place to sleep in his basement. Pat finished one stroke behind Avery and I.

Young golfers at Arboretum Park in Canton, Ohio. From Seneca we drove down to our home away from home; The Ace Run Ranch owned by Don and Francine Johnson. We showed up a few days early along with the Flying Eye crew and Al and Sue in their new (1980's model) Winnie. We all worked on the course and did some fairway mowing, having a lot of fun in the process. Cameron Todd and I tied for 1st in the tournament and Cam beat me on the second hole of the playoff. Ah well... at least I finally beat Al on this course. He'd been owning my butt here over the past couple years. While leaving Suffolk, VA I stopped into a Best Buy and picked up a digital camera. Look for up-to-date Adventures photos from now on. It should be cool, but I don't seem to have much free time lately. Hopefully my creative juices will start flowing and I can get some cool stuff into Brian to put up on the web.

Other developments:

  • Dave will be carrying the monkey for the Canton Hall of Chains tournament this weekend in Ohio. Dave played a 'fun' final round at the Ace Run Ranch throwing every shot in the book for pure entertainment value. He shot a +18 with some spectacular shots.
  • Look for a story about disc golf in the August issue of Maximum Golf magazine. I provided some time and information to the writers to get this article going. The editor says the issue should be on the shelves on the 3rd week of July.
  • Winnie is running well. The last tune up seems to have cured most ailments. She's been a little thirsty for transmission fluid but we've been climbing a lot of hills out here on the Eastern seaboard.
  • We won't be making the trip to Waco this year for the Waco Charity Open. Gas is just too expensive and it's a lot of miles. Cam, Worm, Al, Sue, and Lesli still plan to make the trip.
