November 2nd, Suffolk VA
The Winnie's motor was in a million pieces. No sanctioned events
in the immediate area lead us out to a small tournament on a temporary course
near Virginia beach. The tournament was run by 'Mook-D' and went well on a day
with pretty nice weather. I shot a good second round from the second card
and managed to tie Don Johnson for first. We had a one hole playoff and I
ended up winning the $65 first prize.
We drove back to Don's and decided that the Veterans Park Open in Texas next
weekend was just too big to miss. I volunteered to stay in Virginia and
finish work on the Winnie and watch the dogs while Dave, Al, and Sue drove
Sue's car to Texas to play in the tournament. Over the next seven days Don
and I put the motor back together and she is running like a top. We still
need to work on the brakes however. Don and I also changed a few more holes
at the Ace Run Ranch (Don's private course where I was staying) to get the
course tournament ready for the following weekend.
Other news:
-Al and Sue will be breaking off from the Winnie and finding their own
touring vehicle for next year. Dave and I will still travel in the Winnie
and now have room for one more Winnicrew member for 2001. Looks like
we'll be soliciting some potential tourmates through DiscLife.com, so if you've
ever had dream of fulltime disc golf, get your game up to speed and let's get it on!
-Hyzer is missing again. Two days now. I put up signs at the local gas
station with Don's phone number. I'm going to check with the pound today and
see about putting an ad in the local newspaper. I'm starting to get worried
about him.... he's never wandered off for more than 12 hours before.
-Linda wasn't upset with me at all about missing her birthday. Lucky for me
she's beautiful and understanding. She told me that she had been getting
a lot of late night / early morning, heavy-breathing phone calls, so I decided to
take her picture off the web site. Sorry.
-Dave will be writing the next piece on the VPO. Should be interesting.
-Be on the lookout for Innova's new 'candy plastic'. Innova is now test
running Firebirds, Valkaries, and Gazelles in this new plastic that looks
like hard rock candy. Very durable stuff. I've been throwing a candy
Firebird now for a few weeks and it is still as overstable as it was when
new. This is a very desirable feature in a sharp edged overstable disc.
Everybody wants one but we only have a couple. Hopefully they will be in
production for next season.
-Looking forward to seeing everyone back home in Michigan soon. Dave
and I will be around for the Ace Race
at Brown park in Ann Arbor, on the Friday after Thanksgiving.
