July 26, Columbus, OH
More fun this week. For some reason we decided to just take Sue's Blazer
down to the Hambrick. Cam & Lesli brought the Flying Eye van and their pop-up.
The plan was for all of us to stay in the pop-up at a campground. A little
tight but it'd get us by for the weekend.
On the way down to Columbus the pop-up fried a wheel bearing. We had to pull
over and get a hotel room for the night to figure out what to do. We ended
up leaving the pop-up at the hotel parking lot and took the vehicles down.
We had a few tents with us and met up with the other touring people (Mike
Belchik, his pal Mike, Cameron Rauenhorst, and others) and shared their
camping area.
The tournament was great ... again. Best lunches I've ever had on tour were
provided for free. I won the Friday night doubles with my local partner. A
little cash. Climo didn't make it this year. At the end of four rounds the top
Open players were Mitch MacClellan of Oklahoma, Darren Harper, Al Schack,
and me. I had been leading the tournament after the first day but
dropped into 4th after the last round. I got stuck OB in trees three times in
the last round. Dumb rule.
After the final nine Darren and Mitch were tied
for the lead. Darren ended up winning on the second playoff hole. It was
his first SuperTour win! Way to go Darren! Two SuperTours straight with two
first-time winners. I still need to get my first SuperTour win.
Ah well. Al and I made some good money for 3rd and 4th.
I left with Mike Randolph and Dave Feldberg, who traveled in together from
Maryland (where Dave was at his sister's wedding. Mike traveled with him and
they hit a small tournament out on the east coast). We went to Cedar Point
amusement park with Maceman, Roger, Steve, Harold, and some others. It was a
blast. Rode the coasters and had fun all day long. Al and Sue headed for
Sue's sister's
to get the pop-up and some other supplies for the upcoming World
Championships in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Worlds is next!
