It's been a wild couple of weeks for the tour.
Mad City in Madison, Wisconsin went pretty well. Local favorite Barry Schultz won,
Al and Cam tied for second, I tied
with Mike Randolph for 4th. Sue was second to Juliana. Notice I didn't
mention Dave?
Dave spent Friday night on his back after trying to perform a 360 degree
jumping drive while clicking his heels in the air. I couldn't make up stuff
like this. He landed on his ankle in a manner that clearly attempted to go against the laws of physics.
We're not sure what part of his leg he damaged, but he says it hurts from the
knee down. Dave had to withdraw from the tournament. He sort of spotted and
helped out the tournament staff.
Roger Cansler beat Stevie Rico by a couple of strokes
down near the bottom of the cashing line. Dr. Rick and Mike Young were a
couple strokes behind me. I think that covers us all. There's so many
people involved in 'The Tour' right now.
The payout was about average, which is better than we had been seeing lately.
It was a great tournament on some great courses. Highstand and Elver are top
notch. We got some lightning and thunder during the morning of rain on
Sunday. Cameron Rauenhorst even claims to have absorbed a lightning bolt
through the ground when he touched his pull cart.
There was a skins match ($50/skin) for the top two Open, one Master, and one Woman.
Cam and Al were tied for 2nd so both got to play. Al got about $250, Cam
got $100, and Barry got $100. The skins finished on top of a big hill far
from tournament central, so TD Duster Don reached in his pocket and pulled out
another $50 for one more skin. Juliana parked it and got herself some shoe
money.
Next we all headed to Kalamazoo, Michigan. Mike Belchik, Cameron, Lesli,
Worm, and Randolph stayed over at Dave's house. The Feldberg family was at a
wedding in Maryland and Dave would have to drive out to join them for the
weekend, missing the Toronto Island Open. Randolph was also
heading for the East coast and they would be traveling together. I stayed at
my parent's house for the night, then took care of some banking and got caught
up on the mail that had been piling up.
Dave took the gang out to a park on Gull Lake, so I grabbed my sister's jet-ski
and we all tore up the waves for a couple hours. One more night in Kzoo and
we moved on to Ann Arbor and Bill Lauwer's back yard. We parked the Winnie
(which has been running well lately) and bummed around the Ann Arbor courses
for a couple days.
Some other developments:
I borrowed my parent's camcorder (a pretty nice one) and am trying to take as
much footage as possible over the next couple weeks. Maybe I can piece
together something interesting to look back on in the future.
Mike Young (Worm) has joined up with Team Discraft. As I type he is at the
factory in Walled Lake with Ron Russell checking out some discs and picking
up some shirts. He's been taking a little ribbing from all us Innova guys.
Sue will be sponsored by Ching. Negotiations are still being...uh...
negotiated... whatever. Sue is happy and has been working some more
'Chingish' plastic into her bag.
I'm currently in negotiations with a smokin' frisbee gal about how I can get
to know her better. Wish me luck. Next up: Toronto Island, where a pro rookie hits
the bigtime, and a few won't make it through the border...
