Rewind: Bowling Green Open
May 14 2000, Cypress Gardens, FL

Editor's Note: Todd had asked a friend to write about his Winnicrew experiences at Kentucky's Bowling Green Open in mid-April, but the report never materialized. In this update, Todd does his best to relate what happened that weekend.

The Bowling Green Open

This is where the Winnitour started off for Al and I last year. It's hard to believe we've played so much already this year. We stayed with Rocky Russell who is one of my favorite people in the disc golf community. He's a no-nonsense guy who will give you the shirt off his back. Rocky had about 10 golfers staying at his house for the weekend including the four of us, Climo, Jeff and Johnny Lissaman, and some others. There was a lot of ping-pong (disc golfers are notoriously good ping-pong players) and a generally good time was provided by our host.

Ken Climo The courses were looking good and we started out at Hobson Grove. Hobson is pretty tight and we saw varied scores in the Open division. I was leading the tournament after the first round with a -10 (I couldn't even muster a -5 in practice there). Al was right behind me at -9 and Kenny shot a -8. I hung on during the second round and tied Kenny with a -9 at the White course. After the first day I was leading Climo by 2 strokes.... what a feeling. Ken; however, shot incredibly on the second day at Keriakes. At the end of 4 rounds he had a 5 stroke lead over me. I was 3 ahead of Russell and 4 ahead of Schultz. In the end Ken held his lead over me and I gained one more over Ron. Barry and Ron tied for 3rd. Al finished in 7th.

If you are reading this it is only because my 'guest writer' didn't come through. I waited and waited and by the time I started to type this piece it is already 4 weeks later. My memory sort of fails me on the details.

Next up..... Dave Feldberg talks about the Ozark Mountain Open.
