February 17 2000, Clearwater, FL
Al and Sue left Michigan Feb. 6th for Southwestern Florida directly after the Cracked Plastic Classic in Kalamazoo. They took Sue's Bronco, pop-up trailer, Al's dog Storm, and Helix with them. They had two flat tires on the pop-up while heading south.
Dave and I left Michigan three days later. It would have been two days but we had to get the Winnie un-stuck from the backyard snow drifts. Dave and I headed to Rock Hill, South Carolina to pick up more plastic to sell during the tour. The Winnie needed a couple of carburetor adjustments and had one flat
tire of her own along the way. Dave and I played the Winthrop Gold course for our first round on green grass in about two months (whew!).
We stopped in at the 3rd leg of the Amateur’s Triple Crown in Orlando. Luke Roeggenbach won the first two legs and J. McMillan won the third leg. We ran into Dave McCormack and Roger Reyes (who finished 2nd at the Orlando leg for Ams) selling Gateway Discs and tye-dyed shirts. We hung around for the flymart but it wasn't well attended. We spent the night over at Gregg Hosfeld's house and played mini games and traded plastic. The next morning (Sunday) we got up and headed to Ken Climo's house in Clearwater.
Much fun was had for Sunday and Monday before Al and Sue showed up on Tuesday. Dave Greenwell flew in on Tuesday morning and we all golfed, played cards, and played Risk for the next two days. Dave McCormack was the big Risk winner. It's Thursday morning now... The Winnicrew is going to do laundry and finish the final loading scheme for the bago. We are heading off to Orlando for the first leg of the Pro Triple Crown tonight... Kenny and the others will head out Friday morning.
We are also having minor creative disputes with Mark Ellis about the article that he is writing on us for the next DGWN issue. I'm sure we'll work it all out.
More to come soon...
