In The Bag: Cameron Todd Cameron Todd: The New World Champ

He came out of nowhere in 1997, burning with the goals of a champion. He hit the road full time, and anyone who logs 35,000 disc golf miles per year is going to quickly improve his game. For Cameron Todd, the improvements came in leaps and bounds.

It wasn't long before Cam was bagging SuperTour events, to the amazement of many seasoned pros, who kept asking 'who is this guy?' In 2000, he finished 7th at Worlds, and it became clear that Cameron Todd was for real.

Clean drives and wicked long putts became his calling card, and this year, Cameron Todd earned the right to be called the World Champion.

Cam is one of a growing number of pros who are keeping their bags simple, carrying several versions of the same discs. Let's find out what those discs are.

PDGA # 12827
THE TODD FILE:

Name: Cameron M. Todd

Birthdate: 1-18-74

Throws: Right handed

Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia

Playing Since: 1997

Occupation: Disc Golfer

Average driving distance:
480 feet

Favorite three courses: Winthrop University, Rock Hill SC; Fly 18 ball golf/disc golf, San Diego CA; Cabin Creek, Cincinnati OH

Significant finishes:

  • 2001 Wintertime Open Champion
  • 2001 Champions Cup Champion
  • 2001 World Champion
"For the past few years I have really focused on playing, but recently I have taken on a new challenge. I have started holding clinics and have always tried to get people interested and always try to share what I know with others."

Drivers:
Innova Teebird, 175 gm
What a great disc! Throw it on a hyzer and the Teebird will flip up and ride straight. For anhyzers, you can't pick a better disc.

Innova Eagle, 175 gm
Just as good as the Teebird, but offers a little more overstability for stronger fading finishes.

Midrange:
Innova Roc, 180 gm
Sometimes a Roc is all I need. This disc makes you throw the shot that keeps you on your game. Rocs can be a little harder to throw for beginners, but the results are amazing when properly thrown.

Putter:
Innova Aviar (aka Big Bead), 174 gm
Nothing floats through the air better than an Aviar.

Cam's key to good putting from the mental perspective:
"Lots of people comment that I putt quickly. I step up, putt and get it over with. It's all about about tapping into that natural feeling. Don't over-think your putts, just let it flow."

On winning the World Championship:
"I couldn't have done it without belief in myself, and my creator. Without God, life wouldn't be the same."
