My Friends in the disc golf community:

You’ll notice this special 50th issue of Disc Golf Journal has a distinct lack of articles, advertisements, and photographs. Folks, the sad truth is there will be no September/October ‘99 issue of Disc Golf Journal. Disc Golf Journal has closed its doors. Due to personal matters I can no longer shoulder the responsibilities necessary to edit and publish DGJ.

I know this comes as a great shock to many of you -- just yesterday I was in Kansas City to cover the Amateur World Championships. But alas, I too have fallen victim to complete and total burnout. Deep inside me a voice was telling me to leave Kansas City and return to my family. And before I jeopardize more important areas of my life, I am making a quick and complete exit from the business side of the sport.

Many of you have subscribed recently -- some for two and three years. After my partner Ted Nowlin and I liquidate our assets and pay outstanding bills, we will try and compensate you with either a check or merchandise for your remaining issues.

With a sad heart Ted and I say good-bye. We hold dear the people we have come to call friends in the disc golf community. To the countless individuals who have supported us the last eight years through writing articles, taking photographs, purchasing ad space, buying a subscription, or selling the magazine to your customers, thank you so much.

Disc golf will probably never leave my life completely. I began as a recreational player and this is what I desire -- with no strings. Supporting the PDGA will always be important to me.

Please respect my request to not contact me for a few weeks so I can pick up the pieces and give full attention to personal matters.

Thank you.
